I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham

We celebrated Dr. Suess's birthday this month with Suess books, art projects, recipes and book making.  Finn loved making the strawberry Suess hat pancakes but was not a fan of the green eggs.  Lucie was also not a fan, but I felt it went along with the book.  So far I have tried to feed Finn forms of eggs for four years now and he has yet to willingly take a bite.  The pancakes on the other hand were eaten very quickly.

Lulu the Ladybug party

For Lucie's first birthday we had a party based off the children's books Lulu the Ladybug.  Much of my family had not seen our new home so it was nice to have them all.  I had a lot of fun planning a ladybug party, there were so many ideas and I could have done so many more but you have to stop at some point.  So much fun.  Happy Birthday Lucie!

Ice Skating

I had the chance to take Finn on his preschool field trip to the ice skating rink.  He was a little nervous at first telling me that he didn't know how to skate but I assured him they would teach him.  The kids used chairs to sit in, then lean on and then hold onto to help them get comfortable on the ice.  By the time he was done, he could skate (sort of) holding my hand.  There were a couple little girls in his class that could really skate so when we first got there Finn watched them.  He then thought that he would be able to do it, so he wanted me to let him go so he could go skate on his own.  He quickly found out that it is harder than it looks and maybe he would use some help.  It was a fun trip and I think we will have to take him more often.

Dino Finn

Finn is very into dinosaurs lately.  I would like to say this interest was facilitated by wonderful books and conversation on my part, but the truth is he is obsessed with this stupid show called Dino Dan.  This show is really strange.  Brian and I can't figure it out- the kid (Dino Dan) is middle school age yet he sees these dinosaurs, which we think are imaginary, but his classmates go along with it.  Now, we all know that a 12 year old who sees imaginary dinosaurs would not be treated nicely in middle school, but these kids seem to think he is cool.  Anyway, regardless of how ridiculous this show is Finn loves it.  He now sees imaginary dinosaurs (a little more normal in a 5 year old than in a 12 year old), sets traps for them and takes pictures of them.  He even built a dinosaur out of a box, camera and remote control car.  This dinosaur he built is being used to try to infiltrate the dinosaurs so he can learn about them.  I have decided to take advantage of this interest and we have been doing a unit on dinosaurs- books, writing, science, art projects, so many options.  Notice the vest he is wearing?  This is a vest that is being worn everyday now, because apparently paleantologists wear vests.  I do love that he is at the age now where we can do all these fun lessons, it lets me be the kindergarten teacher again.

Happy Birthday to Lucie!

This baby girl has brought such joy into our lives.  Sometimes I feel like she has always been here and that this place in our family has just been waiting for her.  Our little girl, Finn's little sister, she just fits.  As a newborn she was very quiet and peaceful.  She never really cried, just fussed a little if she was hungry or tired.  As she got a little older she smiled all the time and remained an easy going, happy baby.  At one she is still happy and easy going, but she is also displaying determination and letting her opinions known.  She is now walking, saying mama, dada and hi, kisses her babies, does so big, patty cake, dances, and plays with her big brother.  Her newest thing is patting us, little pats of love just like we give her when putting her to sleep.  Seeing her grow from that precious, sweet newborn laying in a gown and bonnet to this adorable baby girl (I just can't call her a toddler yet, she is still a baby) has been such an amazing experience.  I only wish it could last longer, I really can't believe a year has gone by.  Happy Birthday my sweet girl!

Birthday invite photo shoot

I needed to get a picture for Lucie's party invite, but trying to get an almost one year old to sit still and smile is not easy.

There was crying......

Crawling away....

Lying down....

Some smiles too...

and the winner...
